In the production of aluminium cryolite, or what we here calls bath, is used as a cover material above the melted aluminium. This is among other factors done to keep the melting temperature low and to reduce the energy need. The bath material is recycled by extracting the material from the melting tub simultaneous as a used anode is extracted to be replaced with a new one.
